For any race distance and target time, it will tell you how fast you should be doing your training runs. For instance, say you want to run a marathon in 3 hrs, 30 minutes. How fast you should be doing a 10-mile training run? Enter your race target time, click on the big button and voila! - the training run calculator says you should aim for 1 hour, 12 minutes and 39 seconds, or a split time of 7 minutes and 16 seconds per mile. Note that the Training Run Calculator doesn't just extrapolate speeds - it adjusts for fatigue in quite a complicated way, based on chunks of data gleaned from various running magazines.
Also, check out my Marathon Run Calculator, which helps you calculate your marathon or other race targets based on your training runs.
